The patented Cateye Electromagnetic Disc Brake resistance mechanism is not a simple adaptation of an automobile alternator but rather a precision instrument. Cateye's system uses a disk with integrated cooling fins; the disk passes through an electron magnet. The onboard microprocessor controls the power supply to the magnet in order to increase or decrease the load you experience at the pedal. The cooling fins on the disk keep the temperature of the entire mechanism to within a tight tolerance of 3 degrees Celsius even under the heaviest loads. This is the source of the consistent accuracy and loading stability of Cateye Fitness products. When the pedal crank rpm is a normal 60 RPM the "Brake Disk" spins at an amazing 1400 RPM. This is by design and ensures the pedal load is evenly distributed throughout the entire 360 degree rotation of the pedal cranks.
